Internet and World Wide Web

• What is Internet, who founded/created it, when and why,  how was it used originally and how it is used today

The internet allows many computer networks around the world to connect and is often called a "network of networks". The internet was not created by a singular person, it took the work of multiple scientists and researchers to develop, but Bob Kahn and Vint Cerf are notable figures who helped evolve the internet into what it is today and Vint Cerf is credited with the first written use of the word Internet. It all started in 1965 when Lawrence Roberts made two computers 'talk' to each other for the first time. The first packet switching network was developed and used to exchange messages. Then, the ARPANET was born and a new method called transmission control protocol allowed quick growth into the internet.

• what is World Wide Web , who founded/created it, when and why,  how was it used originally and how it is used today

The World Wide Web is the leading information retrieval service of the internet and gives users access to a huge array of mass media and content. The development began in 1989 by Tim Berners Lee at a scientific organization in Switzerland.  The web browser Mosaic was created shortly after, and allowed users on the web to point and click.

•  are they the same, different, do they work together, separate, side by side

They are not the same. The internet is more of an infrastructure. It's a global network of computers and enables many different services, one being the World Wide Web. The Web is a service that runs on the Internet. So, they do work side by side and the Web is one of the most popular ways we use the internet.

•  when was the first website created, who created it, is it still up, if yes, post the url

The first website went live on august 6 1991 and was created by Tim Berners Lee. It was preserved and is still up. https://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and Lamarr

•  what is the connection of Hedy Lamarr to WiFi and Bluetooth, who was she, is there a song about her, if so - why

Hedy Lamarr was a famous Hollywood actress during the 1930s-1950s and was also an inventor. She co-created a technology called frequency hopping spread spectrum during WW2. It was used to prevent enemies from jamming radio-controlled torpedoes. This invention was used as the foundation for Bluetooth, Wifi, and GPS and she is referred to as the "mother of wifi". There is a song about her written to give her recognition for her overlooked intelligence during her lifetime.

•  who and when developed Bluetooth, who named it, why the logo looks like it does

Bluetooth was developed in 1994 by engineers Jaap Haartsen and Sven Mattison in Sweden. It was designed to replace physical cables with short-range wireless communication. It was named Bluetooth by an engineer Jim Kardach inspired by the viking king Harald Bluetooth Gormsson. He was known for uniting Denmark and Norway, and the combination of the two viking runes for H and B overlaps and shows uniting of technology.

•  who and when developed WiFi, original name of WiFi, when and how it was named

Wifi was developed in the 1990s out of the foundation of work by Hedy Lamarr and others. The original name was IEEE 802.11. That was too technical for consumers, so a branding firm was hired to come up with a better name. They came up with the name wifi and later added the tagline “The Standard for Wireless Fidelity” to make it sound like it meant “Wireless Fidelity,” but that was just marketing.
